The original Bangsbo Manor dates back to 1364, but the present main building is from approx. 1750. The manor house, surrounded by a moat, is beautifully situated in a 17.500 m2 manor park with an English-style botanical garden, kept by volunteer gardening enthusiasts, and a medicinal and culinary herb garden containing around 150 different herbs. The manor house is the setting for permanent exhibitions on the civic and local town history and textile exhibits with an unusual collection of jewellery made from human hair.
The adjacent 400 year-old farm buildings house a Maritime History exhibition with figureheads, model ships and finds from the British frigate The Crescent, that wrecked off the west coast in 1808, plus the carefully restored Ellingå Ship from 1163, a former trading ship similar in design to Viking ships, which was found and excavated in Elling, a suburb nearby Frederikshavn. A new and exciting exhibition tells the story of the resistance movement in Jutland during WWII.
